Originally built by Farquar for the US Army to straighten Howitzer cannon barrels; Machine was built to take 1000 tons over full length of bed.
2012 Modernized by Savage Engineering, Inc.
New 8 GPM Dynex Piston Pump
New Parker valving
New cylinder seals, main and jacks
New electric controls and pushbutton station
New festoon & wiring
New operators traveling platform
New Transcon moving pit cover

Moving Walkway:
A conveyorized pit cover is provided for safe passage along the length of the bed. The antislip tread prevents slipping. The conveyor attaches to both sides of the gantry for “free” power
and moves along with the gantry and across the pit floor.

Push button controls were added as well as Savage RPC (Ram Position Control) stroke controls for accurate positional stopping setpoint. A
new festoon style cabling system was wired to each accessory. Accessories were modified in 2012 from
shaft-purposed to flat bar (gear rack) style. New hydraulic pumps/electric motors were added to the
accessories in 2012.

The 50 ft. bed is the longest of those of commercially made, which provides the benefit of crane loading long
bars to one side of the gantry. It is also rare in that it was built to take 1000 tons over its full length.

MACHINE WAS PRESERVED AND PACKAGED FOR RELOCATION TO ANOTHER PLANT WITHIN THE COMPANY, BUT NEVER SHIPPED
